Working on her happiness didn’t just make her happier, it boosted the happiness of the people around her. ~ Happiness Project Gretchen Rubin
Peace and Play
Recess activities like swing and seesawing are often a foreign concept in regions of war. Children in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, often stand around aimlessly, hiding from the sun or rain. But a playground has given the girls and boys a peaceful place to play. The goal of Playground Builders, A Canadian non-profit, is to give kids back their childhoods and provide hope to embattled communities. Since 2007, the organization has helped build 136 playgrounds in war-torn areas of the Middle East, employing local contractors and sourcing regional materials to create a safe place for children to play in an otherwise tragic and chaotic environment.
